What I have achieved at college since the last time i blogged

Since my last blog in college I have now finished my horror production and have achieved a distinction which I was really pleased about.

I have completed everything within that project. In music my music teacher Geoff is helping me with the live piece of music that will go with the music that I have already done. I am also performing this tomorrow and I am looking forward to showing my class but I am a bit nervous at what they will all think.

In tutorial today we watched a video called Sophie's consent about rape and I think the girl named Sophie did give her consent but was under the influence of alcohol so she didn't know what she was doing.

Things I can do from home!

I am doing media work that has been set to us at home for us to do as the college is closed due to adverse weather conditions.

However I can still access the college website for information on work ,using ILearn, that i can complete such as research. An example of this is watching video clips on youtube. For example I can watch loads of music videos as we are starting a new project in BTEC Media that is all about making music videos and learning how to make them by researching what is in music videos for them to be successful.

Work for Reno's Lesson 7th Jan!

My chosen Tv programme is Top Gear. I think that Top Gear is a programme that is aimed at me because I enjoy talking about different types of expensive cars you would wish you had and this is all part of the show. When the three of them, Jeremy,Richard and James, sit on their seats and talk about cars I am encouraged to watch because this programme interests me. Another way the programme is aimed at me is the way the guys mess about like they were teenagers and have fun doing their jobs making the programme funny for the viewers watching because we get to see what they get up to having fun talking part in challenges and driving the cars.

The social issues that are brought in the programme Top Gear consist of how cars that are brought out of production and how they can be used in day to day life and if they are roadworthy, to be on the roads. Another social issue brought up in the programme is the issue about road signs and if they are useful enough. How the cars can cope in all weathers like snow, rain, sun. How the cars feel to drive on a day to day basis testing the comfort of the interior and how good the car feels when driving and how useful all the inside compartments are to use for the driver of the car. They explore these social issues by discussing between the three of them on the sofa and they get the audience involved by asking them questions about the cars whether they would like what the manafacturers of the car have included with the vehicle they have made.

The Genre that the programme Top Gear uses is factual documentary and the show is also partly a comedy as the three presenters act idiotic to impress the public audience, in doing so making their audience feel humoured by the programme. For example, in one episode of Top Gear they all decide to have a challenge. They each chose a route from the middle of London to get to Gatwick Airport to decide which was the quickest, using four modes of transport, bike, car, public transport and a speed boat. As the programme is mostly about cars they wanted to make the car win this challenge, but fail to do so. However Jeremy is so confident he will beat his fellow colleagues that he takes it easy. Richard wins the challenge by making it to the airport first on a bike. Jeremy, used a speed boat,is so shocked that Richard beats him, has a face of disbelief, his facial expressions say it all. This shows the comical side to the show. They also have a celebrity guest that appears on the show who Jeremy interviews. The way in which they show it's also a factual documentary is by having a news part to the show. This gives the audience knowledge about newer cars that are being released reporting facts about the cars, like horsepower, how many doors it has, what litre enigne, what specifications the car has got etc.

The type of narrative experienced by the viewer of Top Gear is a sequence of events from previous documentaries and present documentaries. For example when they show clips from previous filming they relate to what they have researched previously in relation to the present programme subject being focused on and future programmes and showing the viewers what to look for in the programmes to come.

The story that they are telling is both factual and historical as they look back on earlier models of cars from previous years and compare them to the newer modern cars being manufactured today.

Induction

When we were first introduced to the BTEC Media course, we were set a task in groups of 4, to complete a re-creation of a clip and try and make the clip as close to the original clip as possible. Our clip was the best obviously!!

What the Reflective Learning Diary is for

Today we are creating a reflective learning diary for media, we are creating this blog/diary so I can record our progress on all my courses, to help me in any evaluations for any projects I complete in any of my courses and it also helps me record skills development
